Standortbeschreibung
Canongate Kirk has existed in this site since 1688 and currently serves as the church for the Royal family while in residence at Holyrood Palace. Its kirkyard holds the graves of notable Edinburgh figures, including poet Robert Fergusson, whose bronze statue strides outside the gates. The kirk gable, its red doors and the trees that flank the gate have an intriguing symmetry. It is located right on the Royal Mile and is easily accessible, although frequently busy.
Aufnahmehinweise
This image has been taken from the pavement on the opposite side of the street to the church while the Cherry Blossom trees are in bloom in early May. The symmetry of the image works in all seasons, but looks a bit more dynamic while there are leaves on the trees. In the image above the pink contrasts the blue sky. You have to plan well, or be a bit lucky, to get the image with the leaves like this as it only lasts for a week or two each year. The Royal Mile is rarely quiet, so expect to wait for gaps in the foot and road traffic to take the image.
