Standortbeschreibung
This is a view up to the much-loved Ramsay Garden - a unique cluster of red-outlined buildings that form the last properties crowning the ridge below Edinburgh Castle. The almost fairytale-like turreted apartments were created in the 1890s by Patrick Geddes and differ greatly from anything else you’ll see on the Old Town skyline. Today they are sought-after private residences with uninterrupted views over Princes Street, the New Town and beyond. The main image here is photographed through a natural window of summer foliage beneath a cloudless sky, although finding a gap through the leaves with a clear view to the apartments can be tricky. Ramsay Garden can otherwise be viewed from slightly lower down in Princes Street Gardens during daylight hours. From either viewpoint the buildings appear to float above a wall of greenery during spring and summer.
Aufnahmehinweise
This image is taken in summer when the trees are in full bloom to create the framing foliage around the buildings. A short telephoto will compresses the scene and isolate Ramsay Garden through the gap in the canopy from the pavement on Princes Street. Use a polariser to deepen the blue sky and cut glare off the foliage with the white and red buildings popping out in the final composition.
