Standortbeschreibung

This view across the lawn of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art at Belford Road (Modern One) takes in Charles Jencks’s landform sculpture, ‘Landform Ueda’, with its swirling grass terraces curving in the foreground. The serpentine earthwork, completed in 2002, guards the front lawn at Modern One which is open to the public. The grounds are free and seldom over-crowded. This landform differs from a traditional artwork or sculpture as you can walk up on to it and essentially be a part of it.

Aufnahmehinweise

Early morning light works well here because it sits low and creates contrast in the sweeping layers of the terraced paths. This helps a sense of scale and adds depth to the image. Standing on the highest ridge of the landform will require a super wide lens to get most of it in frame. This shot was taken at 14mm. An ND8 filter here allows a couple of second exposure to take the shimmer off the water surface, but not essential.
