Description du lieu

Looking east along Edinburgh’s northern shore to Newhaven and Western Harbour. This view encompasses the small heritage harbour area at Newhaven and the modern buildings of the reclaimed Western Harbour. From this angle they stretch out and create a colourful unobstructed scene. The image is taken from the rocky shoreline down a steep concrete staircase. Take care on the rocks and be aware of tides and incoming water. The surface of the rocks is uneven and can be slippery, especially if the tide is going out and shoreline is wet.

Notes de prise de vue

This is an interesting composition all year round, though calmer oceans create more elegant reflections in the foreground. A tripod and ND filter helps to slow the light coming into the camera for a longer exposure. Stopping down the aperture (higher f-stop number) will also slow light coming into the camera, but going too far will soften the image as a result of diffraction. A small tower due north is also worth photographing.
