Location description

The Dugald Stewart Monument has graced the Edinburgh skyline atop Calton Hill since its completion in 1831. Designed by architect William Henry Playfair it is a memorial to the Scottish philosopher and mathematician Dugald Stewart (1753-1828).

Shooting notes

Golden light on the right side of the Monument is possible in the spring and summer months when the sunset position is further north. If you position your camera correctly then the pillars in the Monument will appear symmetrical. This helps the balance of this element of the image, although not essential.
