Location description

The name ‘Cemetery Bay’ and its proximity to the final resting place of so many of Norfolk Island’s characters through time conjures a more sombre and reflective mood than its Kingston counterparts. The reef here is less protective than those around the point at Emily and Slaughter Bay too, which makes the shore slightly more ‘active’, but perhaps that is aptly reflective of the spirit of the place, and is what makes it so unique and special.

Shooting notes

Early mornings work well here as the sun is behind you and illuminates the scene, really accentuating the blues of the ocean and highlighting the distant trees and headland.
