Location description

The original stone gateway to Stockbridge Market stands as a testament to the area’s trading heritage. The arched entrance leads down a lamp-lit passage towards Hamilton Place. It’s a busy lane, but not so much so that you will have difficulty getting a clean shot. It can be easily found just off St. Stephen Street.

Shooting notes

Dusk or early evening provides a fun balance between the ambient light and the single lamp within the arch. Any time of year works well here. The frame can be quite flat and the lamp is such a feature, that taking the shot when it is illuminated brings a little warmth to the arch and the frame, though it’s not essential. This image was taken just after rain, so the wet foreground reflects light also and adds depth.
