Location description

The reefs that protect the bays and lagoon at Kingston and make them so peaceful and serene, are the same ones that make the area so hard to land at. The name itself, ‘Slaughter Bay’ stirs up many thoughts and emotions, and located just yards from the Kingston Compound, Gaols and Gallows Gate, it might be hard to fathom anything but hardship and misery. Yet in stark contrast to that, Slaughter Bay offers a thriving turquoise wonderland of marine activity.

Shooting notes

An interesting beach to photograph at any time of day. Getting some rocks in the foreground can create an interesting juxtaposition to the shot and give it some character. An ND filter and a 1/4 second exposure will allow a little bit of movement to the water and make the crashing waves appear like small explosions. Some trial and error required here.
